Trent Edwards: Is He a Good Fit With Mike Martz and The Chicago Bears?

Trent Edwards won the starting job in camp, and pre-season.  Who knew that after two starts, that he would be benched (in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick), and then a week after he would no longer have a job.

That could all change in an hour from now. But one team that everybody should be looking at is , the Chicago Bears

I know they have Jay Cutler, but the Chicago Bears will need a backup.

Edwards is a perfect fit in Mike Martz offense. In Martz offense you dump off to receivers and running backs  to set up the long pass.

Edwards is a very conservative quarterback, who likes to dump off to receivers. As of matter of fact, he dumps off so much that Buffalo Bills fans use to call him “Trent-ative”.

I know the Bears have Todd Collins & Caleb Hanie, but Collins is getting older and soon willl not be there, and Hanie hasn’t had any game experience.

If Cutler goes down, you have a talented backup quarterback, who fits the system, and has experience.

Yeah, Edwards will not be able to start,  but where else is he going to be able to start?

St Louis? Too late for that buddy. Oakland? They have too many quarterbacks as it is. Buffalo? Their is a reason you don’t have a job.  Carolina? If you had went their before the draft, then maybe it would have been a good idea.

Chicago would be a good place for Trent Edwards, because he would learn under Mike Martz and he won’t have to duck for cover as much as he would in Buffalo.

Edwards would be a good pickup for the Bears because other then a 85 year old Todd Collins, they have nobody behind Cutler.

Update: An Hour later The Jacksonville Jaguars have claimed Trent Edwards.

It’s good for the Jaguars because they now have another option to turn to other than Luke McCown. It’s good for Edwards because now he can spend some time on the bench in warm Florida then Cold Buffalo.
