The Return of the Mail Bag

It’s been quite some time since I published a mail bag.

That’s mostly because it’s been quite some time since I actually received an email about the Bears.  But, as I logged into my email this morning, I had one waiting for me.

And it was a doozy…

“Scott, I just want to let you know that you come off as a cynical jackass.  You are just one of the millions of idiots out there who think they are a professional writer because they write some stupid blog for some stupid site that nobody reads.  You have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to the Bears and I can’t even count the mistakes you’ve made in all of your articles.  If you took the time to actually look up things you might see how wrong you are, but you obviously don’t take the time to learn your stuff.  Thanks for giving me your email address so I can bash your writing not only on the site, but to your personal email address as well.  And why don’t you stop writing, too.  I’m sick of reading your crap.”

Nice, huh?!?

I’ll leave this person’s name off of this, because there is no need for me to call them out.  If they read this and want to claim the email, then do so in the comments.  That’s up to them.  But, I’d also like to say that if you are reading this, then that is your problem, and if you hate my writing so much, you should probably just not read my articles.

My response is not meant to be for you, but for myself and for anybody else who has an opinion about my writing or anybody elses on this site.

First off, nowhere in any of my articles, or even in my profile, do I ever state that I am a professional “blogger/writer.”  I have no such thoughts about myself.

Second, I will admit to making mistakes and will also tell you that I am going to make plenty more.  Sometimes it just happens.  With all the different sites out there to gain information from, there are bound to be issues with the correctness of the information I write.  I will also state that if you are saying that my opinions are wrong, then I will go ahead and let you know that opinions are opinions and they can’t exactly be “wrong.”

Each person is entitled to their own opinion.  Whether you agree with it or not, that is their opinion and they believe in what they are saying.  Therefore, in their mind, they are “right.”  And, when it comes to sports, and how someone feels about their team, it’s extremely hard for someone to be wrong.  Sure, they can be wrong about factual information, but when they talk about draft choices, free agent signings, or even how their team played that day, it’s difficult for anyone to argue they are wrong.  You may have a different opinion, and you are free to discuss that opinion, but it is never beneficial to argue points to the extent where name calling and verbal abuse come into play.

Believe me, I love to hear back from everyone about how they think my opinion is wrong.  I love hearing other sides to my way of thinking.  That is how people become better writers, better thinkers, and more opinionated.  Some people are shut off to certain thought processes and need to be turned on to those thoughts by others.  It’s not impossible for people to learn something new and decide to change their mind about their own personal opinion.

So, my intent with these articles is to have fun.  I want to write from my heart and share my opinion.  I want to share the way I feel more than to share the knowledge I’ve accumulated from reading articles, listening to interviews, and watching games.  Anybody can write about what they’ve learned, but I’m more interested in hearing about what people feel.  So, that is why I write the way that I do.

I know that this article really has nothing to do with the Bears, but I felt it necessary to write.  I don’t write articles to get 5,000 readers.  If I wanted to do that, I’d post half-naked pictures of cheerleaders.  I write my articles for the few people who actually enjoy them and to hear back from people who have opinions different from my own and want to discuss their beliefs in a civil manner trying to sway my thoughts.

But, if you wanted to verbally spar with me, I can do that, as well.  I’m well versed in momma jokes, so bring it on!

Anyways, I digress.  As always.

And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

If you so choose, feel free to email me at ScottOttersen@yahoo.com .  I’m ready and willing to respond to any and every email I receive, whether it be by email or in a future mail bag.

Thanks for reading.
