Mike Martz could be the new offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears

Andy Maisonneuve, Bears beat reporter for the “Bearly Legal Show” on Talkzone.com, has confirmed with an inside source in the Bears organization that Martz is likely to get the job.

Martz has not signed the dotted line yet; however, it’s very close.

The Bears’ general manager Ted Philips has denied the claim; however, timing is a critical matter in any new hire, and it’s possible the organization is not ready to announce it.

Martz was with the Rams‘ as head coach when Smith was the defensive coordinator from 2001-2003. Martz’s reputation for turning around ailing offenses makes him an ideal candidate to help Jay Cutler reduce his league-leading interception total in the 2010 season.

Martz was the 49ers‘ offensive coordinator in 2008. Before that, he was the Lions‘ offensive coordinator for two seasons. He is currently an analyst for NFL Network.

His offensive coaching efforts, which led to the nickname the “Greatest Show on Turf” when the Rams won a Super Bowl, have been criticized for being pass happy, although his Rams twice finished fifth in the NFL in rushing.
