Marquess Wilson to Bears: How Does the Washington State WR Fit with Chicago?

The Chicago Bears offense had its first 1,000-yard receiver in several years last season with Brandon Marshall. However, he was the only real wide receiver who made a major impact. This is why Washington State’s Marquess Wilson has a chance to find a role with this team.
Wilson is a talented wide receiver who uses his length to attack the ball at its highest point. He is a savvy route-runner who knows how to change speed and decoy his routes. Wilson doesn’t have great long speed, but the way he mixes things up helps him attack down the field.
This is a target who can make the tough catch in traffic. His long arms and leaping ability means he’s typically the first player to get his hands on the football.
The issue with Wilson is that he comes with character red flags. In the middle of the year, he quit the Washington State football team and accused Mike Leach of abusive behavior. An investigation was conducted, and it found that Leach didn’t do anything inappropriate.
If Wilson works through his troubles, he can push for immediate playing time. The Bears are looking for another playmaker to help Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. Chicago can’t go another season with Marshall as the only legitimate threat.
The No. 3 wide receiver spot is up for grabs. Earl Bennett, Eric Weems and Devin Hester are the top candidates currently on the roster. Bennett has shown some flashes of his potential, but has been widely inconsistent.
Wilson absolutely possesses the natural talent to take advantage of this opportunity. He’s a good candidate to work out of the slot and attack the deep part of the field. That ability to make plays down the field is an area where the Bears need some help.
