Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs has announced he will not play in the 2010 Pro Bowl, according to the Chicago Tribune .

The Tribune did not cite the reason why Briggs decided to participate in the NFL’s all-star game, but it most likely is due to injury, as Briggs has battled a back injury for much of the season.

Briggs in the Bears’ only Pro Bowler and recorded 118 tackles, two-and-a-half sacks, and an interception in 2009.

Green Bay Packers’ rookie linebacker Clay Matthews has been chosen to replace Briggs. The Pro Bowl takes place Jan. 31 at Landshark Stadium in Miami a week before the Super Bowl.
