Khaseem Greene: How Will Chicago’s Newest OLB Fare in the Pros?

The Chicago Bears boosted their linebacker corps with the selection of Khaseem Greene in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL draft.
Greene was the second linebacker drafted by the Bears this year, with inside linebacker Jonathan Bostic being the first. Let’s take a look at how Greene will fare in the pros.
Pro Outlook
Few 4-3 outside linebackers have the athleticism and speed that Greene brings to the field. However, Greene’s biggest strength that he’ll bring to the Bears is his ability in pass coverage.
He’s extremely capable dropping into coverage and covering tight ends or receivers. He does a great job at tracking the quarterback’s eyes and consistently makes plays in coverage.
Greene needs to become more physical at the line of scrimmage and at the point of attack. He struggles to get off defenders in the run game and will sometimes lack consistency in his work ethic.
Fantasy Outlook
The Bears already boast one of the best defenses in fantasy football, and Greene will only help them more efficient. He might not cause many turnovers, but he certainly won’t allow opposing offenses to make big plays in the passing game.
Roster Outlook
The Bears likely drafted Greene to be the eventual replacement to Lance Briggs. With Briggs on one side and James Anderson on the other side, Greene isn’t likely to start in the 2013 season.
However, Chicago could use Greene on passing downs as a rookie to help its overall coverage abilities.
Pick Analysis
Greene has the athletic ability and upside to become a very good linebacker in the NFL. He’ll also have the opportunity to learn from one of the best in the game in Briggs, which will only help him become a better player.
In a few years, this pick could turn out to be one of the best value picks of the 2013 NFL draft.
