How the Bears Front Office Managed to Make Me Write an Article

Call me old-fashioned, but I thought the off season was a time to make a list of what needs to be improved and act upon it with great urgency all in an effort to win a Super Bowl.

If I was in charge (Which I feel more and more I could be) my list would be as follows:

  • Get a No. 1 receiver at all costs
  • Aggressively pursue offensive linemen
  • Sign a fullback/TE who can block
  • Sign a OLB
  • Sign a DT
  • Sign a CB

Free Agency was filled with possible candidates for all these problems. I could name so many people the Bears front office should have gone after (I did but I realized I should keep the article short and deleted it).

They failed this off-season in a miserable fashion. At least on the first day and I pray I stick my foot in my mouth tomorrow. Going down the list is as follows:

  • Roy Williams, Sam Hurd
  • NOTHING
  • Matt Spaeth
  • Nick Roach
  • Anthony Adams, Tank Tyler
  • NOTHING

Roy ‘Butterfingers’ Williams was Lovie and and Angelo’s solution. Pat yourselves on the back boys.

Roy used to be a Pro Bowler when he was with Martz so he’s definitely going to be one again now that they are reunited. Wait a minute… he had the highest percentage of dropped passes over the past two years?

Oh right, he was much better as a No. 2 receiver and failed horribly as a No. 1. You can surround him with whatever coaches you want. Have his boys stand on the sideline while he plays. It won’t make him catch a ball.

There is so much risk involved in this and I am not very optimistic about it. However, I am positive everyone at Halas Hall has been high-fiving and relaxing after all that hard work of acquiring a player who was released and unwanted.

The move is very unsettling to say the least. Sam Hurd, however, does fill the hole left by Rashid Davis so that move is a push.

Not only have the Bears not gone after a proven OL (yes they signed our draft pick, but did anyone expect them not to?) they are in jeopardy of losing Olin Kreutz to the 49ers.

He should have been the first person signed. There is no one else on the roster capable of filling those shoes. If he signs elsewhere, the offensive line is in serious trouble.

Why dear god, why did we trade Greg Olsen? I get that he isn’t a solid blocker. He is a great talent and now a complete waste. This demonstrates how much power Mike Martz has over this team.

He couldn’t work the Bears best receiver into his scheme so he talks the team into trading their best receiver for next to nothing.

This is a physically sickening trade. I can’t comment.

Matt Spaeth is the next Manumaleuna. Just a giant Tight End who is only good for blocking. You are already missed, Greg.

Why isn’t Pisa signed yet? I understand he had injury issues and that is frustrating to a team. However, the Bears paid him next to nothing last year and when he was healthy, he was a monster.

He played with the aggression and passion that a Chicago LB must have. I saw it every snap he played.

He is much better than he is given credit for and should be re-signed soon, although I doubt it will happen. This is another frustrating move. Nick Roach was a solid signing, but he isn’t a starter.

I can’t complain about the DT position (must seem like a miracle) . I can see solid production from that position.

The Bears need another CB. Tillman is one of my favorite Bears, but there is a lack of depth. There are a few unproven guys there, but there were also a couple of great corners on the market.

I guess Jerry was so tired from his Dallas revival signings that he simply didn’t have the energy to focus his attention to that position. I swear I feel like the Bears only have 2-3 people who cannot multi-task working at all times to save money.

When Jerry finally awoke from his signing induced coma, he tried to salvage lost time by signing a pass rusher. What he really signed was a bust in Vernon Gholston. I don’t understand this at all. While they’re at it, they should see if JaMarcus Russell is sober enough to come back and toss the ball around, too.

This off-season has tested my dedication as a Bears fan. I’m still hanging in there and I hope you all are too.

It’s only the first day, and although the Bears were not as active as the Eagles or the Pats, maybe they can find a way to get a piece to the puzzle that’s worth some of the massive cap space they have still.

I pray I eat my own words, but I can’t shake the feeling the Bears front office thinks they did a great job and are done looking for acquisitions. I think there should be a voting system instituted for the fans to decide what is best.

Unfortunately, we all must sit back and watch the train wreck as it unfolds.
