How Jerry Angelo Actually Saved The Bears From Extinction

I’m totally sick of people trying to bash JA for bad moves. He saved the Bears, and people don’t realize what he did.

Since taking over the Chicago Bears in 2001, Angelo had a tenuous road ahead of him. Dick Jauron, the coach at the time, had in his contract that he was to have control of the player roster, which entitled him to the GM powers that Angelo was supposed to have. The relationship between the two was grating at best, and downright horrible at worst.

Then, during the 2003 season, Ed McCaskey died, thus spreading out the shares he had and allowing the other McCaskey children to take the majority share away from his wife, Virginia Halas McCaskey and eldest son, Michael McCaskey.

This led to Angelo finally being elevated to full GM and powers (instead of name only). It also signaled the end of Dick Jauron, who was fired at the end of the season.

This means that any draft pick from 2001 to 2002 was Dick Jauron’s fault, and those players included:

2001 Draft
David Terrell

Anthony Thomas

Mike Gandy

2002 Draft

Marc Colombo

Roe Williams

Terrence Metcalf

Dick Jauron had a big hand in the destruction of the bears. The real person responsible was Dave Wannested, as he was responsible for:

  • Cade Mcnown (way worse than Rex Grossman )
  • Russel Davis, DE, second-round pick in 1999 draft (just as bad or worse than Dan Bazinun )
  • Curtis Enis (way worse than Cedric Benson )

So, everyone needs to just calm down about how JA killed the Bears. The Bears were dead when he got there.

The past four years, JA has gone:

2005—11-5
2006—13-3
2007—7-9
2008—9-7

Before JA took over full power of GM duties after 2003:

2003—7-9
2002—4-12
2001—13-3
2000—5-11
1999—6-10
1998—4-12
1997—4-12
1996—7-9
1995—9-7
1994—9-7
1993—7-9

So, do you really think hes doing that bad of a job? Look how terrible the Bears were when he got the team.

If it wasn’t for JA, the Bears would be a disaster.

He’s made his biggest impressions recently by bringing in a good amount of talent, such as Jay Cutler, Orlando Pace, Kevin Shaffer, Frank Omiyale, and Pisa Tinisamo

If your not expecting the Bears to make it to the playoffs this year, then you are crazy, so get ready Bears fans.
