When the Chicago Bears let GM Jerry Angelo go this past offseason and brought in Phil Emery, the upper management made it clear that they wanted some changes to take place in Chicago. 

Well, as they say, ask, and you shall receive.

The Bears wasted no time going after big name players and quickly added depth to their team, mainly on the offensive side of the ball. After trading for Brandon Marshall, signing quarterback Jason Campbell and running back Michael Bush and drafting wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, the team instantly looked better and had a lot more depth than they have had in a long, long time.

Along with all of the changes to the players, perhaps the biggest help for Cutler on offense came from the sideline, where the Bears promoted offensive line coach Mike Tice to offensive coordinator after reigning coordinator Mike Martz “Chose to Retire”.

Instead of running a system with a 7 step drop back and taking three seasons to learn, Tice is working with his players and incorporating parts of the offense that worked so well in Denver for Cutler and Marshall.

For many seasons past, Jay Cutler has been somewhat of a disappointment to the fans of Chicago, who thought they were finally getting an all-pro quarterback when they traded for Cutler from Denver.

Cutler hasn’t been bad by any means, he just hasn’t been elite. So the big question that is currently hanging over the Chicago skyline for all to see, is whether or not Cutler can get it done this season and return to the elite form (and more) that he showed early in his career in Denver.

As of now, all signs point to yes.

There is absolutely no reason that Jay Cutler should not make the pro bowl this season and be at least in the elite quarterback conversation. 

Last season, before Cutler went down for the season after 10 games, he had already thrown for 2,319 yards and 13 touchdowns. Oh, and he also had his team at 7-3 and in position to win the wild card.

This season, Cutler is primed and ready to go and excited about all the new weapons that he has at his disposal. As seen in the first few pre-season games, Cutler has been using Marshall like a kid uses a new toy on Christmas. Against Washington, on the first drive alone, Cutler and Marshall had 61 yards through the air. Against New York, the only touchdown the offense had passing in the first half was, you guessed it, Cutler to Marshall. 

In just the two games we’ve seen him, Cutler has looked like the quarterback the fans have always wanted him to be.

There is no reason that he shouldn’t be able to carry the success into the regular season and thrust himself into the conversation about the elite quarterbacks in the National Football League.
