Three Chicago Bears rookies have showed up and made a nice first impression through the first three practices.

On offense, rookies Evan Rodriguez and Alshon Jeffery have caught the eyes of many in attendance.  Rodriguez struggled a bit during OTAs and both minicamps, but to this point has been one of the stars of camp.

Rodriguez has showed off superb hands through the first three days of training camp.  He stood out in days one and two without pads, and then showed up when the pads came on.

He is easily putting himself in position to make the team and if he continues on his current trajectory, could push for playing time.

Rodriguez could put himself ahead of Matt Spaeth on the depth chart because Spaeth is not known as a playmaker in the passing game.  Spaeth has a career high of 17 receptions and has come nowhere near that during his other four years in the NFL

On defense, Shea McClellin showed off quickly why he was the 19th overall selection.  McClellin showed burst off the edge and the ability to dip and rip.  He can get under the outside shoulder of the offensive tackle and also had two pass deflections, one at the line and one in coverage.

Also making an early impression, cornerback Isaiah Frey who dove in front of free-agent addition Devin  Thomas to break up a pass from Josh McCown.  Frey is helping himself by grasping the playbook and then coming out onto the field and applying his knowledge in practice.

Frey may be a longshot to make the roster, but he will be one to keep an eye during the preseason games.  Those four games are likely going to be the determining factor in whether Frey makes the 53 or winds up on the practice squad.

The Bears will have one more practice in pads tomorrow afternoon, before taking Monday off.  They will also hold a practice at Soldier Field on Friday night as part of their annual Family Fest celebration.
