Chicago Bears-New York Giants Preview and Prediction

The Chicago Bears are 3-0 and have a very good chance to raise their total wins to four going into New York. The Giants are trying to get Tom Coughlin fired, or at least they’re playing like it.
The Giants, once a Super Bowl team, is playing like the Bears did the last two years: unmotivated and lazy. This is not a young team. This is a team of veterans playing terribly. With a 1-2 record things are not looking up for the Giants as they host a rising Chicago team.
The Bear’s offense has been surprisingly good so far. Sure, Cutler is still taking hits (injury coming soon?), but the Bears have shifted to more short passes to compensate for the lack of throwing time. It’s not a permanent solution to the problem, but if it’s not broke, why fix it? Besides, that quick pass offense has opened up room for the deep pass as the corners tend to sneak up.
Matt Forte is back in his groove, Greg Olsen is starting to play a key role in the offensive game, and the defense is finally showing some life.
That life can be credited to Brian Urlacher’s return. And not just his physical return, but also his return to being an animal on the field, chasing down players like a predator stalking its prey. Paired with Lance Briggs, they are a match made in heaven. Finally, the linebackers are feared again in Chicago.
The secondary is nothing great, but it’s improving game after game. With the way the Giants are playing, and the way Manning is throwing picks, the secondary has a chance at a huge night.
Not everything is perfect, though, for the Bears. Defensive end, Tommie Harris, is under performing (again), making a case for his release. Their offensive line is still getting battered by better defensives. Unless that o-line gets fixed the playoffs seem more like a wish right now. Even if they do make the playoffs, with that 0-line they wouldn’t last past the first round.
But even those problems have been shoved under the rug, at least temporarily. As long as the Bears keep on winning there will be nothing but praise, mostly because most people have never seen a 3-0 start from this team. Just like no one had predicted a 1-2 start from the Giants, either.
The Giants have been playing bad lately, but it has to end, right? You’d hope so if you’re a Giants fan.
The same goes for the Bears. As well as they are playing, it has to end eventually.
Since the teams face off in New York, I am going to have to pick the Giants over the Bears. As much as I’d love to see the Bears win, I think New York is a better team than they’ve been playing, and since they’re playing in front of their home crowd, I have the Giants winning 27-24.
