Chicago Bears: Josh McCown to Start Against Green Bay Packers

Sorry, Bears fans. The season is over.
Unless you think Caleb Hanie is so bad Josh McCown has to be better by default.
Because apparently that’s what the Bears believe.
“We’ve moved on now. We’re really excited about Josh,” said head coach Lovie Smith.
Wow.
Makes you wonder which part of McCown’s game excited the Bears most—the fact that his name wasn’t Caleb Hanie? Or that he entered the game and almost immediately threw an interception?
Maybe they’re excited about getting the defense on the field faster and more frequently. Because when Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs and Julius Peppers are on the field, Chicago is much more likely to score.
Frankly, I have a hard time believing Peppers couldn’t play quarterback at least as well as McCown or Hanie.
I’d give Jay Cutler a chance to play left-handed.
Lesson learned. Never play poker with Lovie Smith. Anyone excited about Josh McCown is either crazy or bluffing.
Fans have argued, why not start Nathan Enderle? Why not find out what he can do?
Mike Martz responded, “He has quite a future. The problem with Nate is, Caleb didn’t have preseason a year ago, he got injured and we spent all our time with Caleb in the preseason so Nate didn’t get a whole lot of work. It’s just too much of an unknown right now. We’re trying to win so, he’ll have his time I’m sure, but right now this is our best opportunity to win.”
Wait. Just wait.
The Bears still think they can win? With a third-string quarterback fresh off his couch and injuries to the starting RB and WR? On the road against the 13-1, Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers?
Tip: Avoid the Kool-Aid at Halas Hall.
Because that’s unbelievable.
Even with Jay Cutler under center, and a healthy Matt Forte and Johnny Knox, the Bears aren’t favored to beat the Packers at Lambeau. (Not hardly.)
And you expect us to believe Josh McCown gives them a chance to win? And that he knows the offense better than Enderle, who’s been with the team studying and preparing all season?
Unless, of course, Enderle hasn’t been studying and preparing, getting reps in practice and learning how to become an NFL quarterback.
But wasn’t that your job?
I’m sorry, Mr. Offensive Coordinator, but if Nate hasn’t figured out how to hand off to backup running backs by now, that’s all your fault.
The Bears might as well find out what they have with him, since he’s played so little the coaches don’t even know.
Because if Josh McCown is the answer, the question is, “How do you know the Bears season is over?”
Start thinking about next year’s draft.
Unfortunately, the draft won’t address the team’s real needs: a new GM, head coach or offensive coordinator.
