Charles Tillman Rumors: Latest Buzz and Speculation Surrounding Free Agent CB

Charles Tillman managed to play just 10 games in the past two seasons for the Chicago Bears, and the 33-year-old has therefore hit the free-agent market.

However, Tillman hinted at a possible return to Chicago on Friday, Jan. 23:

Tillman’s hint delivers a different message than the following tweet at the conclusion of the 2014 campaign:

The Bears drafted Tillman in the second round in 2003, and for years he’s been a dependable starter with a knack for forcing fumbles and exceptional coverage skills. Unfortunately, he tore his right triceps in 2013 and ruptured the muscle again this year in his second game of the season.

If Tillman can be had at a reasonable bargain, which is a likely scenario, given his recent injury history, he may be considered a steal. Provided he’s healthy, Tillman can ascend to the top of the depth chart and excel, thanks to his football savvy and unique skills that often produce takeaway opportunities.

With his lower limbs intact and outstanding technique, there’s reason to believe that the two-time Pro Bowler can return to form as long as his triceps holds up.

Chicago or another team would be fortunate to field a veteran like Tillman for mentoring purposes in any event, should his skills be too diminished at this point.

Chicago’s 2014 first-round pick Kyle Fuller plays Tillman’s position, and he impressed as a rookie, which had to have at least something to do with Tillman’s guidance. Considering how poor the Bears were defensively last season, they might reassess letting Tillman freely explore his free-agent prospects.
