The Chicago Bears are a team in turmoil after their Week 7 loss to the Miami Dolphins, and legendary linebacker Brian Urlacher has no shortage of opinions regarding why that is.

According to Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times, the retired future Hall of Famer is bearish on Chicago’s quarterback situation with signal-caller Jay Cutler struggling, based on his comments during an interview with 87.7 FM The Game:

Financially, he is one of the elite guys in the NFL … he just hasn’t produced like an elite quarterback. You look at the [Tom] Bradys, the [Peyton] Mannings, the [Aaron] Rodgers, the [Drew] Brees, those guys win every year, even with no one around them. Rodgers has no offensive line. He wins. Brady has no receivers. He wins.

Cutler threw for just 190 yards in Sunday’s loss and turned the ball over twice. After the listless defeat, Michael C. Wright of ESPN.com reported that wide receiver Brandon Marshall called out the quarterback in the locker room, although head coach Marc Trestman later dismissed the notion of any friction between the two.

With so many weapons at Cutler’s disposal, Urlacher is perplexed about the quarterback’s inability to put the Bears over the top.

“He’s got Brandon [Marshall], Alshon [Jeffery], Matt [Forte], this great offensive line, Martellus Bennett, and they can’t seem to put it together, for some reason,” he said. “I’m not sure if that’s his fault, but for some reason they just can’t figure it out.”

While there may be some merit to Urlacher’s comments, Greg Gabriel of 670 The Score suggests the eight-time Pro Bowler’s comments may have something to do with his strained relationship with Cutler and the organization:

Urlacher was also critical of the manner in which Marshall reportedly handled the situation after the game.

“When I was there, we had different leaders, so that would never happen,” Urlacher said. “That situation would have never happened. [Former Bears head coach] Lovie [Smith] would have never let it happen, first of all.”

There is no question the Bears are in disarray, as they are 3-4 and stuck in third behind the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers in the difficult NFC North.

Things could get even worse as a clash with the New England Patriots looms in Week 8, but Chicago could just as easily flip the script if it can find a way to pull off the upset.
