The Bears fell behind early and got torched on the ground all day Sunday in St. Louis. Benny Cunningham rushed for 109 yards on just 13 carries. Josh McCown threw for over 350 yards and two touchdowns.

Final Analysis for the Chicago Bears

Passing Offense: Josh McCown did everything he could to keep his team in the game. He had a career high in completions with 36. His late turnovers came when the game was virtually out of reach. 

Passing Defense: Kellen Clemens only threw the ball 22 times and had just 10 completions. On the surface it looks like good defense from the Bears but they really struggled to stop Clemens on third down. 

Rushing Offense: Matt Forte and the running game really cooled down in the second half. He never reached the 100 yards he was on pace for after the first half. 

Rushing Defense: The Rams averaged nearly nine yards per carry. This was about as bad a performance from this run defense as we’ve seen all season. Three different players from the Rams had over 60 yards on the ground. 

Special Teams: A big penalty kept Devin Hester out of the end zone and out of the record books for most combined return TDs. 

Coaching: The Bears finished with 10 penalties for 84 yards, saw their defense give up 258 yards on the ground and managed to take points off the board by their own doing in the red zone. It was a bad day for Marc Trestman and his coaching staff. 

First-Half Analysis for the Chicago Bears

Passing Offense: Josh McCown has done a great job of moving around in the pocket and protecting the football against an active Rams front. He’s been under pressure but has stood strong and delivered strikes. 

Passing Defense: The defense continues to show its vulnerability on third down and in the middle of the field. Kellen Clemens has only attempted 13 passes through two quarters. 

Rushing Offense: The early fumble by Matt Forte hurt the Bears, but he’s since bounced back to average 5.8 yards per carry. He’s well on his way to a 100-yard day.   

Rushing Defense: The Bears knew coming into the game that St. Louis wanted to run the football. The Rams have succeeded and gashed the Bears for 167 yards on the ground. Tavon Austin had a huge run, and Zac Stacy has been grinding out tough yards.

Special Teams: Solid job by Adam Podlesh to keep the football out of Tavon Austin’s hands. The kick and punt coverage has been very good as well. 

Coaching: There have been too many penalties and mistakes by the Bears. Kyle Long’s incident with his brother Chris, poor lane coverage on defense and a total of 47 penalty yards all reflect poorly on the Chicago coaching staff.
