The Chicago Bears, originally established in 1920 as the Decatur Staleys, have quite possibly the richest and most authentic throwback memories of all teams.

There have been multiple iconic figures within the Chicago Bears’ organization. Not only for football fans, but for humanity.

Chicago has the prestige of holding the most players from a single team in the Hall of Fame.

Those members from the Chicago Bears inscribed in football’s history include:

  • Doug Atkins
  • George Blanda
  • Dick Butkus
  • George Connor
  • Mike Ditka
  • John Driscoll
  • Jim Finks
  • Dan Fortmann
  • Bill George
  • Harold Grange
  • George Halas
  • Dan Hampton
  • Ed Healey
  • Bill Hewitt
  • Stan Jones
  • Sid Luckman
  • William Roy Lyman
  • George McAfee
  • George Musso
  • Bronko Nagurski
  • Walter Payton
  • Gale Sayers
  • Mike Singletary
  • Joe Stydahar
  • George Trafton
  • Clyde Turner

That’s 26 Hall of Famers from “Da Bears.” The question is, who is the best among those 26?

Walter “Sweetness” Payton.

Why?

Walter Payton was the greatest of all-time.

The 5-10, 200 pounder out of Jackson State spent his entire 13-year tenure with the Chicago Bears.

In those 13 years, he put up numbers of 16,726 yards rushing on 3,838 attempts. An average of 4.4 yards-per-carry. Number 34 rushed for 110 touchdowns.

“Sweetness” also rallied in 492 catches for 4,538 yards for 15 touchdowns.

Walter Jerry Payton is the greatest Chicago Bear of all-time on and off the field.

Soon, I will be creating my own tribute to Walter Payton and will post the link here.
