The Bears announced that Jeffery is ready to play against Detroit in Week 4.

Jeffery Struggling to Shake Injury Bug

The last thing the Bears need is for Jeffery to miss a stretch of games. The team’s injury report makes for gruesome reading, with Jay Cutler (thumb), Jeremy Langford (ankle) and Danny Trevathan (thumb) among those who didn’t practice on Sept. 29.

On Sept. 27, Chicago placed cornerback Kyle Fuller (knee) on the injured reserve list.

After appearing in all 16 games during the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Jeffery missed seven games last season, including the last two with a hamstring injury that landed him on the IR list.

Jeffery’s hamstring issues popped up again early in training camp, when he suffered what Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times described as a mild strain.

The Bears have had problems keeping receivers healthy. Jeffery missed almost half of the team’s games last year, and 2015 first-round pick Kevin White never stepped onto the field after suffering a shin injury.

Depth at wide receiver is not a strength for the Bears. Eddie Royal is their main slot receiver, and Deonte Thompson is their top backup.

With Matt Forte joining the New York Jets in the offseason, Jeffery is the Bears’ best offensive weapon. He led the team in receiving yards last year despite missing nearly half the season.
