Alshon Jeffery: 5 GIFs Showing Why the Bears WR Should Have Been a Pro Bowler

Alshon Jeffery is not a Pro Bowler, according to the official rosters released on Friday. I could refute that decision by listing his gaudy stats. I could show you his numbers against those of the eight receivers who were selected, and you’d see what you already know: that the Chicago Bears’ second-year receiver fits in with that group. Heck, that he’s better than half of that group.

But numbers are boring.

Jeffery is not.

Six million yards wouldn’t illustrate No. 17’s real value. Because the real reason Jeffery is an all-star, whether officially recognized or not, is in how he strung those yards together.

No other wide receiver in the league has saved quarterback ratings like Jeffery has. No other wide receiver has extended drives, won games and kept his team afloat the way the South Carolina stalwart has.

Come on, NFL. Do your due diligence. Investigate the numbers. Or how about this? Don’t.

Instead just turn on SportsCenter, grab some popcorn and watch the Bears highlights, the ones with Jeffery leaping through the air, the ones where it looks like you’re about to see a defensive highlight for the other team and then—wow, did Jeffery just do that?!

The ones where you’re thinking there’s no way he can hang on to the ball, but then he does. Because he always hangs on. Because he’s Alshon Jeffery. And that’s what Alshon Jeffery does.

Come on, voters—players, coaches and fans. Recognize star power. The kids in backyards across Chicagoland have: “You be (insert quarterback here), and I’ll be Alshon Jeffery.”

They don’t even know what to shorten his name to—“Alshon” or “Jeffery” or maybe some combination or nickname—because he bloomed when we were expecting him to bud, and maybe that’s why he didn’t get his Pro Bowl.

We weren’t prepared for him; he showed up ready to party, and we were still in our bathrobes.

But Alshon Jeffery has arrived, and whether Chicago has a nickname for him or not, Bears fans realize he’s a special talent. A Pro Bowl talent. And it’s a shame the voters got it wrong.

Now for the GIFs, as promised. Below you’ll see highlight-reel proof of No. 17 in action. Three of the GIFs show incredible touchdown catches, one shows a solid end-around run and the last shows a block that takes out two defenders and paves the way for a Matt Forte touchdown. Enjoy.
