Joe Theismann: Chicago Bears WR Roy Williams Doesn’t Have What It Takes to Play

It’s no secret that Chicago Bears wide receiver Roy Williams can cause more headaches than double-teams downfield.

The latest critic to take a shot at the former Dallas Cowboy and Detroit Lion is former Super Bowl champion quarterback Joe Theismann.

On the latest episode of the NFL Network’s “No Huddle” program, Theismann voiced his disappointment with Williams and called him out for a lack of effort.

“Roy Williams will never be a quality receiver in the National Football League because he doesn’t have what it takes,” Theismann said.

Williams has been tagged as a receiver who drops balls and fails to make the type of plays No. 1 receivers should be able to make.

But Theismann’s criticism didn’t stop there. He goes on to personally call out Williams as a professional football player.

“And Roy, if you’re listening, I’m saying it right to you,” Theismann said. “You have to make a decision that you want to play football as a professional, not as somebody who’s entitled because somebody was not thinking when they gave away two No. 1 (draft picks) for you.”

Was Theismann out of line by making these remarks—or is he simply saying what frustrated Bears fans have been saying, and finding out, all along about Chicago’s “No. 1 receiver.”

Will these comments light a fire in Williams, or will he ignore them and move on unfettered?

The 2011 season has not been kind to Roy Williams thus far. He has four receptions for 55 yards and has yet to strike pay dirt.

“No Huddle” can be seen Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on NFL Network.
