News that the Minnesota Vikings have waived wide receiver Randy Moss has spread like wildfire, with most expressing shock and disbelief over how quickly it happened. But while Moss didn’t exactly help his cause with his comments about Minnesota, would the Bears overlook that and sign him?

Look, with the Packers now in first place in the division and the Bears having lost consecutive games, a move like this might be a last-ditch attempt at salvaging a fading season.

Or, it might fail and subject the team to all kinds of turmoil. But what the heck, desperate times call for desperate measures.

Moss was critical of the Vikings following a game against his old employer, the New England Patriots, on Sunday when he caught only one pass for eight yards.

He criticized the team for not heeding his advice on certain plays the Pats might try to use against the Vikings. In four games with the Vikings, Moss had 13 receptions for 174 yards and two touchdowns. The Vikings were 1-3 in those games, including Sunday’s loss at New England.

Yet there is no denying the man’s talent and what he could bring to a Bears receiver corps that is young and inexperienced and lacking a legitimate No. 1 wideout.

With the season obviously on the brink, Lovie Smith and Jerry Angelo might push the panic button and make a move for the star playmaker. That is, if he becomes a free agent.

According to ESPN.com, “Moss is available on the waiver wire until Tuesday afternoon. A team can claim him and pick up the final year of a contract that pays him $6.4 million a year. If no one claims him, the Vikings owe him the remaining $3.888 million of his deal and he’s available for around $450,000 with Moss picking the team he would like to join.”

Meanwhile, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reports that multiple teams, including the Bears, are among the teams possibly interested in Moss.

No reason was given for waiving Moss, according to the ESPN report.

Of course, even if the Bears were able to acquire Moss, who is to say that Jay Cutler would even be able to get him the ball, given how badly the offensive line has played?

Still, it would make things exciting around Chicago, that’s for sure. What do you think, is he worth a try?
